New Teacher Award

Every year The Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Awards recognize teachers in Western Massachusetts for their diligence, dedication and innovation in the classroom.  This year, Wellness Teacher, Catherine Wielock was selected to receive a New Teacher Award. This award, which is made possible by the Irene E. & George A. Davis Foundation partners with the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation, is given to a promising educator with less than three years of experience. Miss Wielock was nominated for several reasons. Since joining The PFPS staff, she has improved and expanded the Wellness curriculum by creating two new classes, and revamping the Strength and Conditioning class. She is also committed to making the experience in Wellness the best it can be for each student.  She has used grant money to purchase necessary mannequins in order to instruct CPR and Stop the Bleed to both her students and for faculty professional development.  Miss Wielock also recently organized an assembly for students highlighting one family’s experiences with being victims of drunk driving. Admired by her students and colleagues, Miss Wielock is certainly deserving of this prestigious new educator’s award.  She will be honored at a dinner at The Log Cabin on May 7th along with other educators from throughout The Pioneer Valley. Congratulations!
